Prolong® Highly Crosslinked Polyethylene

Reducing Wear and Delamination

Prolong Highly Crosslinked Polyethylene represents a significant advancement in wear reduction. It is specifically designed to reduce wear and delamination by addressing a number of specific wear factors. Use of Prolong Highly Crosslinked Polyethylene as a bearing surface with the Zimmer Biomet Trabecular Metal™ Total Ankle results in a wear rate reduction of 74%, as compared to use of conventional UHMWPE in the same design.1

When used as a bearing surface in total knee arthroplasty, ProlongHighly Crosslinked Polyethylene has been shown to:

  • Reduce topside wear2
  • Improve resistance to articular subsurface delamination, pitting, and cracking3,4
  • Improve resistance to oxidative degradation5
  • Reduce backside wear6
