Our Global Compliance Team

Zimmer Biomet’s global Compliance team is comprised of highly skilled and dedicated lawyers and compliance professionals, located in countries around the world, including the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, and China.

There are four regional compliance teams supporting the business in the US & Canada; Asia Pacific (APAC); Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA); and Latin America, as well as global compliance teams responsible for compliance operations, investigations, monitoring, third party due diligence and trade compliance.  Collectively, the teams work to ensure Zimmer Biomet team members have the training, tools, and guidance necessary to perform their jobs in a legal, ethical, and compliant manner.

Compliance Officers

Angela is the head of Zimmer Biomet’s global Compliance function and the regional Legal function in Asia Pacific. She is responsible for the provision of a broad spectrum of legal and compliance advice and solutions to both the Zimmer Biomet organization as a whole and to the Asia Pacific business entities, including the implementation of compliance policies and training to Team Members and business partners as well as the screening of business partners.

Prior to joining Zimmer Biomet in 2010, Angela worked for Covidien in Singapore, Lloyds TSB Bank plc in London and Texas Instruments in its European and Asia Pacific regional offices. She has extensive international legal and compliance experience in the healthcare, financial services and technology sectors.

Benjamin Kwak serves as Vice President, Global Compliance Functions, and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer. Benji is responsible for global Compliance functions, which include compliance monitoring, investigations, operations and third-party compliance teams. He also oversees efforts to detect, prevent and deter misconduct; and to drive measurable improvements to the Compliance program.

Benji joined the company in February 2014. Before joining Zimmer Biomet, Benji was in private practice in Washington, D.C., where he focused on white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and corporate compliance matters. He regularly represented multinational corporations before the DOJ and SEC in matters involving the FCPA, and has conducted internal investigations and anti-corruption compliance reviews throughout Asia, Europe and Latin America. Benji received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. He is a licensed attorney in New York and Washington, D.C.

 

Blaine joined Zimmer Biomet in 2011 and was responsible for product liability litigation and risk management. In 2015, he joined the Compliance Department and currently serves as Vice President and Compliance Officer for the U.S. and Canada and serves on the Orthopedics Group leadership team.   Blaine spent 5 years in private practice focusing primarily on employment litigation in federal and state courts.   He is a graduate of Brigham Young University and Notre Dame Law School.  

Heidi has led the Zimmer Biomet EMEA Compliance team since 2010. Before joining Compliance, Heidi spent eight years as Associate Counsel in the Zimmer Biomet EMEA Legal Department. Heidi has extensive international experience in legal and compliance-related topics in the medical device industry, and she has been an active member of the compliance committees for various medical device industry associations in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining Zimmer Biomet, Heidi served several years as Legal Counsel for SAir Group, the holding entity of Swissair Ltd. She graduated from the Eberhard-Karl University of Tubingen, Germany, with a degree in law and obtained a second state exam in law at the District Court Constance, Germany. Heidi also holds a Ph.D. in law from the University of Berne, Switzerland and is a graduated Compliance Officer (Univ.) from University of Augsburg, Germany.

Campbell leads the Asia Pacific Compliance team, where he is responsible for managing and overseeing all legal and compliance matters as well as implementing global legal and compliance initiatives in the APAC region. He joined Zimmer Biomet in February 2023 and is based in Singapore. Campbell joined Zimmer Biomet from Medtronic where he most recently served as Vice President, Legal and Compliance, Asia Pacific. Prior to Medtronic’s acquisition of Covidien, Campbell served as Covidien’s General Counsel in Asia. He has held several in-house and private practice positions in New Zealand, London, Tokyo and Sydney. Campbell holds both Bachelor of Laws with Honours and Master of Jurisprudence with Distinction degrees from Auckland University.

Santiago joined Zimmer Biomet in July 2019 to lead the Latin America Compliance team and provide support to the business units operating in that region. Santiago is based in Miami, Fla., and brings more than 20 years of international experience in diverse industries, such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, technology and telecommunications to ZB. He spent nearly a decade at Covidien, where he served as Vice President, General Counsel, Latin America, and most recently, he served as Executive Director and International Counsel, Latin America, at Alexion Pharmaceuticals.

Global Compliance Officers

Terri is Vice President, Global Compliance Investigations Counsel, at Zimmer Biomet, a role she assumed in July 2020. She joined ZB in 2016, and has most recently served as the Director & Senior Counsel, Global Compliance Investigations, based in Singapore. In this role she was responsible for leading confidential internal investigations on behalf of ZB throughout the Asia Pacific region. Previously, Terri was based in Washington, D.C. and led ZB’s internal investigations in Latin America. 

Prior to joining ZB, Terri spent seven years as an associate in Baker & McKenzie’s Compliance, Investigations & Government Enforcement practice, where she worked on a wide range of internal and government investigations for publicly-traded companies with a particular focus on the FCPA and other anti-corruption laws.

Terri is a graduate of Colby College and George Washington University Law School. 

Dan is Vice President of Global Compliance at Zimmer Biomet, where he oversees the Global Compliance Operations and Third Party Compliance team. He joined Zimmer Biomet in 2015 as part of the APAC Legal & Compliance function. Before that, Dan spent five years at an international law firm based in Washington, D.C., where he focused on civil and criminal litigation, government investigations and corporate compliance matters. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.

Mathias leads the Global Compliance Operations team, where he is responsible for the strategic oversight of all global compliance training initiatives as well as the development and maintenance of all global compliance policies and procedures. This is a role he assumed in October 2020. Previously, he served as a Compliance Director in the EMEA region, where he provided compliance support to the EMEA Central and Africa regions. He joined Zimmer Biomet in February 2013. Before Zimmer Biomet, Mathias gained broad international work experience in the field of legal and compliance, having served as a Junior Legal Counsel for the Legal & Compliance Department of ABB Switzerland, and through his work at law firms in Switzerland and Singapore as well as at the District Court of Bulach-Zurich, Switzerland. He was admitted to the bar by the Supreme Court of Zurich and holds degrees from the University of Augsburg, Germany, and University of Zurich.

Steve joined Zimmer Biomet in July 2019 as Director, Global Trade Compliance. In this role, he leads the Global Trade Compliance team. Steve joined Zimmer Biomet from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Trade in Washington, D.C. Beginning his career as a customs inspector, he moved to the CBP in 2009 to serve as Acting Executive Director, Trade Policy and Programs, before becoming Deputy Executive Director, Office of Trade, where he provided oversight and direction for five divisions. He retired from that position prior to joining Zimmer Biomet. He is based in Warsaw, Ind.

Paul leads the Global Compliance Monitoring and Audit teams, where he is focused on detecting and deterring misconduct and addressing key risk areas through data monitoring exercises and compliance audits of high-risk areas, including third parties. Previously, he served as Compliance Officer and Senior Legal Counsel for Asia Pacific, where he was responsible for managing and overseeing all legal and compliance matters as well as implementing global legal and compliance initiatives in the APAC region. Paul joined Zimmer Biomet in 2019. Before Zimmer Biomet, Paul worked for Norton Rose Fulbright in Singapore, providing legal and compliance support to clients focused primarily on white collar crime, anti-corruption compliance, and internal investigations.
